Top 5 Breweries in the Swan Valley 2022

Those of you that know me well know that I love a good beer (and sometimes not just one!).

So, it will come as no surprise that I am writing a blog post about the Top 5 Breweries in the Swan Valley.

The Swan Valley region in Perth is renowned for its wineries and restaurants.

But there has also been an emerging market for boutique breweries in recent years.

Some of the best breweries in the Swan Valley are within metres of each other making them easy to visit.

Whilst this post is called the Top 5 Breweries in the Swan Valley, I have not numbered them.

They are also listed in no order because, in my opinion, they are ALL world-class and not much separates them.

All the breweries listed below hold their own charm and are worth a visit

Top 5 Breweries in the Swan Valley – Duckstein German Brewery & Restaurant

One of the pioneer craft breweries in Perth’s Swan Valley wine region, Duckstein is open daily from 11am.

Offering a wide selection of finely brewed German beers, this venue is best when it is busy, usually around lunchtime.

The fantastic German menu has something to suits everyone’s tastes and the servings are German sized (BIG!!)

Some of the favourites include the Schweinshaxe – a roasted pork knuckle with crispy crackling, sauerkraut and potato dumplings.

The huge schnitzel is also a hit, as is the Duckstein platter which has a bit of everything.

If you love German food and beer, then Duckstein is definitely the place for you!

There are often live bands playing which only adds to the overall ambience, instead of dominating it. I just love this place!

Top 5 Breweries in the Swan Valley – Elmar’s in the Valley

Home to Perth biggest Oktoberfest celebrations, Elmar’s in the Valley is another German brewery that does it right.

From the moment that you arrive in the Elmar’s carpark you feel like you’ve arrived home.

The building has an old Australian country feel about it and is surrounded by big old gum trees and manicured hedges. The interior is just as warm and inviting.

Whilst the bulk of their menu is not traditionally German-themed, the Elmar’s Bratwurst Plate is extremely tasty.

Make sure you check out their Acoustic Sundays that run from early January through to the end of May. The vibe is awesome!

Top 5 Breweries in the Swan Valley – Mash Brewing

A multi-award-winning brewery, Mash Brewing has been involved in craft brewing since 2006.

Mash has a wide and varied beer selection, so the temptation is to try them all.

If you don’t really feel like a beer, or maybe you have tried them all already, Mash also produced a very tasty Apple Cider that is mid-strength (3.5%).

Mash has on offer a tasting paddle, where you get to sample four different beers.

This is a perfect way to try out their beers to find your favourite. Mash also caters to non beer drinkers with a wine and cocktail menu.

Their extensive menu is perfectly matched with their beer selection and Mash’s House-Smoked Beef Brisket is ‘to die for’.

Top 5 Breweries in the Swan Valley – Homestead Brewery

Mandoon Estate is situated just off Reid Highway in Caversham. As you enter up the long driveway, you drive past rows and rows of grapes.

The Homestead Brewery is part of the Estate and offers casual dining for those not wanting a picnic on the lawn or to sample the wares of the fine dining restaurant.

The brewers at Homestead Brewery use a German engineered “Schulz” brew house. This is the only one of its kind in Australia and with 350 years of experience behind it, you can’t go wrong.

The Homestead Brewery allows you to sit back, relax with a beer or apple cider in hand whilst overlooking the vines.
